Solar Eclipse • China (Jiaxing)
July 22, 2009

The black line shows the path of the total solar eclipse as it crosses China on July 22, 2009. Ruth and Ed will travel to Jiaxing, an area southwest of Shanghai, to view the eclipse, followed by sightseeing in Shanghai, Xi’an (site of the terracotta non-pacifists), and Beijing. Maximum totality (which will occur in the Pacific Ocean SE of Japan) is 6 min. 36 sec.; at Jiaxing, it will be 5 min. 51 sec., the longest time on the mainland.
